International Application for Fellowship Checklist

PLEASE READ BEFORE COMPLETING APPLICATION

Applications are now being accepted for 2025. 

(The application deadline is December 1, 2024)

Please note: Applicants for Fellowship must have been in an independent practice for a minimum of three (3) years (on or before December 1, 2021) and be board-certified. 

Apply now and you will be considered for induction into the College as a Fellow in 2025. The application process concludes with the granting of Fellowship each year at the ACS Clinical Congress.

Note:  International Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons are ineligible for ACS Fellowship

Please review the Statements on Principles and the Fellowship Requirements for more information on the ACS expectations of Fellows and the application process. 

The following Eligibility Requirements must be met before proceeding to the application.

Eligibility Requirements

I know three(3) Fellows of the College who can serve as references for me and complete a reference form that speaks of my qualifications as a surgeon.

I have been practicing surgery for three (3) years or more since the completion of my formal training (residency, fellowship training, etc., do not count as practice time).

I hold a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in my country.

I hold a current appointment on the surgical staff of a hospital with no reportable action pending that could adversely affect staff privileges at any hospital.

I practice as a general surgeon or as a surgical specialist within the scope of my specialty.

Please check the box below that best describes your current certification status (Check all that apply):

An American Surgical Specialty Board which is a member of the ABMS.

A Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh,England,Glasgow or Ireland).

An appropriate national surgical board from the country where I currently practice.

We request that you be prepared to upload the following documents into the application:

  • A current medical license in the country in which you practice
  • Documentation confirming Board Certification in your country
  • A current Curriculum Vitae (CV) translated in English

Application Fee

If you are not a current ACS member (Associate Fellow) you will be required to pay a non-refundable application fee (in U.S. dollars) online at the end of the application. This payment is required before you can submit your completed application. Applications will not be processed without payment of the application fee.

2023 International Application Fees

Application fees are based on the World Bank income categories for each country.

  • High- and upper-middle-income countries: $100
  • Low- and middle-income countries: $50
  • Low-income countries: $25

ACS Membership

You will become an Associate Fellow of the College while your Fellowship application is being processed. After you are inducted as a Fellow, you will be billed for dues in January to maintain your membership for the year. The FACS designation can only be used after you become Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. It can only be used by dues paying ACS Fellows.
