SESAP 15

Surgical Education and Self-Assessment Program (SESAP®)15

10SP-0001

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) Division of Education presents the 15th edition of the Surgical Education and Self-Assessment Program (SESAP®). SESAP 15 helps surgeons acquire and apply new knowledge, as well as reaffirm existing knowledge, in a commitment to lifelong learning.

The new edition consists of 830 newly constructed, problem-based, multiple-choice questions. Comprehensive critiques provide evidence-based explanations regarding all the answer choices, as well as supporting references from the current literature. The questions cover all of the 15 major content areas of general surgery, consistent with the American Board of Surgery (ABS) outline for topics addressed in ABS examinations. In addition, SESAP is a valuable self-assessment tool and is recognized by the ABS as a resource that can be used to help fulfill Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part 2 requirements.

A total of 90 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ can be earned—more credits than with past SESAP editions. Those interested in earning CME credit must use an electronic version of SESAP 15. CME formats include CME Web or CME CD-ROM, and either format can be combined with a supplemental print copy (the two-volume syllabus). Learn more about CME information and minimum system requirements for using SESAP.

Participants who do not want CME credit have the following options: NonCME Web, NonCME CD-ROM, or print versions. The print version cannot be used for CME; it includes a NonCME CD-ROM, the two-volume syllabus, self-assessment book, and the self-scoring booklet.

SESAP Sampler SESAP Sampler®

In response to the growing demand for a convenient format to assess surgical knowledge on a regular basis, the American College of Surgeons Division of Education has developed the all-new SESAP Sampler®. Continuing the SESAP standards for excellence, SESAP Sampler® consists of content that has been developed with the same rigorous, multi-step, peer-review process used for SESAP 13, and is being published for the first time.

The SESAP Sampler® provides the flexibility of a periodic, monthly review and the optimum convenience of an online format. The Web-based self-assessment resource is offered as an annual subscription consisting of 12 monthly online modules. Each module presents five new, previously unpublished questions along with discussions and cited references for each question on a given topic. The topics that parallel the content outline for the general surgery recertification examination. Upcoming topics include breast, abdomen, vascular, endocrine, thoracic, and alimentary tract.

SESAP Sampler® is designed to enhance surgical decision-making skills and patient care through continuous, periodic self-assessment. An annual subscription provides the opportunity to earn a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ that may be helpful in meeting Part II of the Maintenance of Certification requirements of the American Board of Surgery.
