The guidelines have been developed as a tool to be used for quality improvement purposes and may be used in quality improvement initiatives and programs. This document is meant to aid surgeons and the responsible physician or health care provider who must make the final decisions regarding patient care and who also should take into account the patient’s individual clinical presentation.
